Staying at Home

For a lot of people this is going to be a really rough time adjusting to homelife. Its important to remember that not everyone has a stable home situation. Not everyone is safe at home. Quarantining and social distancing can bring up a lot of issues, especially around domestic violence. If you want to speak to an Advocate call 1-800-799-7233 (National Domestic Violence Hotline). You can chat with an advocate at www.thehotline.org or Text LOVEIS to 22522. Psyche is here for you!

Understandably we are surrounded by a lot of negativity due to COVID-19. However its important to be able to look at this situation in another perspective. There will never really be any other time in our lives where we get this type of “time out”, and all this uninterrupted time.

Wherever we might be right now during this lockdown. If we are in Poland or our home countries. If we are surrounded by rain and gloomy weather, or the warmth and sunny beaches. We are bound to get bored at some point or another. So we decided to share with you 8 things you can easily do at home to kill time.

1. Stay connected

Humans are highly social beings, that’s why self-isolation can easily feel unnatural, and have a negative impact on our health. Right now, especially if you are living alone, it can feel pretty lonely and isolating. It is important to stay connect with friends and loved ones. Not only for your own well-being, but check on other people to make sure they are doing well too.

2. Organize (and maybe sell) your stuff

This great idea helps you kill some time but it’s also very productive. You could start organizing your shoes or your winter clothes since the weather is getting warmer.

There is an app here in Poland (and most definitely in other countries too) called Vinted where you can sell things you don’t have a use for anymore and make some extra bucks.

3. Put yourself first

Isn’t this the perfect opportunity to do all the things for yourself that you never really had time for? Work on your mobility. Read the book you’ve always wanted to read, but never had time for. Take care of your skin. Cook. Experiment. There is so much you can do for your selfcare, allow yourself to make yourself your priority. This is the time to do it!

4. Read a book

Now you could start reading a new book, continue one or re-read one you already love. If you don’t own a book that interests you, or you have been wanting to purchase a specific best seller there is a great website called Book Depository. They ship worldwide and usually have sales.

5. Netflix Party

Instead of watching a movie alone, use Netflix Party to link up with your friends and host a long distant movie night. It synchronizes video playback and adds a group chat!

6. Try a new recipe

If you like to cook or have been trying to improve your cooking skills why not try to make a new dish, maybe something out of your comfort zone. There are tons of recipes for example on Pinterest.

7. Experiment

Learn how to do something new, something that might take you out of your comfort zone. Getting outside your comfort zone not only fosters creativity, but also makes you more productive. Learn how to paint. Trying out yoga. Make beats on your computer. Learn how to cook. Switch up your routine. Try something new until you feel comfortable.

8. Listen to Podcasts

Podcasts are a great way of entertainment and since there are so many Podcasts about different topics (e.g true crime stories, politics, comedy, etc.) you could even learn something new.
